I think the tray icon on Windows is too wide and you can barely make out that it's an arrow. I added a 1px border and think it looks a little better, but what do I know?

I think it's your screen? I don't see a difference in your Screenshots between the 2
Because we are limited by the python win32 api implementation, we can't use higher resolution images :/

The edge's of the arrow stick out a tiny bit more. It's not a big deal really.

The resolution is what it is (16x16), it's more the scaling. That doesn't leave you with much room to work with, and yes, you really have to squint.
