Downloadspeed / sabnzbd

Post by NUdelsuppe »

Hi guys,
first i wanna give u a short overview about my setup:

- intel Intel Celeron N3150 (SoC ASRock N3150-ITX=
- 2x 4 GB DDR3 RAM
- Systemstorage: SLC USB Stick
- Datastorage: 2x 5tb wd red raid1 (software raid)
- 200 mbps down / 10 mbps up
- my downloadfolder and tempfolder ist set to a folder on the raid
- usenetprovider with unlimited downloadspeed
- all computers connectet by cable (no wifi)

My Problem: My average downloadspeed show in sabnzbd is about 6 - 8 MB/s whats like 48 mbps - 64 mbps. I already changed the "article cache" to 500M and to 1G, but the downloadspeed dosen`t change.
On my gaming computer (win7) i run alt.binz a there i can download with nearly 20 MB/s. That tells me the internetconnection and the usenetprovider cant be the mistake.

Do u have any advice how I can speed up my download via sabnzbd?

thanks daniel

How many connections did you set for the Usenet provider?

SABnzbd is inherently slower that most, due to the fact that it's written in Python.
Nice and efficient language to write in, but the communication library is a bit too slow.
The CPU is not too bad, so I'm surprised that you don't go above 8 MBs.
That's what I get with a very ancient Atom CPU, although that box runs Linux.
SABnzbd is quite a bit faster on Linux than on Windows.

I have noticed that when one collection is nearly finished and an other collections starts to download the over all download speed goes up to 14 MBs to 16MBs. It looks like that the problem is that one single collection can`t download faster then 6-8 MBs

The speedup is an illusion.
Caused by skipping the par2 files.
