How to continue download after reconnect

Post by isofan »

Hello,

I have tried sabnzbd, and have a problem whenever my router reconnects to the internet, i.e. there is a short break in internetconnection, and after that I am reconnected with a different IP address, my download threads die and never get active again. Here is what it looks like in the log right after a reconnect happens:

Code: Select all

2009-01-20 16:29:14,842 WARNING [downloader] Thread 2@reader1.xlned.com:563: timed out
2009-01-20 16:29:15,842 WARNING [downloader] Thread 1@reader1.xlned.com:563: timed out
2009-01-20 16:30:44,000 ERROR [downloader] Connecting 1@reader1.xlned.com:563 failed, message=502 reader6.xlned.com: Access denied to your node - usenet@xlned.com
2009-01-20 16:30:44,000 ERROR [downloader] Connecting 2@reader1.xlned.com:563 failed, message=502 reader1.xlned.com: Access denied to your node - usenet@xlned.com
What can I do against it? Server timeout is set to 120s.

If you wait longer, does it eventually reconnect? It looks like your server hasn't timed out your connection and still thinks your are connected, so disallows you to connect. You may need to set your timeout higher.

The timeout isn't the problem as such.
It's the news provider that doesn't detect that the connection has gone.
Some providers are very bad at this and require many minutes to timeout.
(The behavior of your ISP isn't exactly elegant either, they should give you
the same IP address).
You may have to the timeout higher (say 5-10 minutes) but be aware that
this will have some effects (like slower recovery when a connection is broken due
to some other condition). And obviously it will then also take 5-10 minutes
before downloading resumes after a re-connect.

Hi,

I have tried increasing the timeout, it doesn't help. I have waited for half an hour, but it didn't improve. Then I terminated sabnzbd, and started another Usenet Client instead with the same server configuration and same username/password, and it worked instantly. So obviously, my provider accepts new connections, but somewhat not from sabnzbd.

Have you tried to restart SABnzbd instead of trying another client?
Does clicking "Force disconnect" on the Config->Connections page help.
What happens if the other client is confronted with re-connects?

Hello,

I have already pushed "Force Disconnect", but it didn't help to rebuild the connection. My other client is Grabit, and I wanted to switch to sabnzbd because this client has the reconnect problem too, but it is a known problem with it, especially when using SSL connections.

The strange thing is: I wanted to test what happens when I quit and restart sabnzbd, since you asked that too. So I quit Grabit, started sabnzbd,  and I do not even get a connection now. Remember, I have just used Grabit, closed all connections, quit that. Now I started sabnzbd, and wanted to resume my previous queue which still is saved. This is the message I get:

Code: Select all

2009-01-20 20:59:15,578 ERROR [downloader] Connecting 1@reader1.xlned.com:563 failed, message=502 reader3.xlned.com: Access denied to your node - usenet@xlned.com
2009-01-20 20:59:16,467 ERROR [downloader] Connecting 2@reader1.xlned.com:563 failed, message=502 reader5.xlned.com: Access denied to your node - usenet@xlned.com
2009-01-20 21:01:37,655 ERROR [downloader] Connecting 1@reader1.xlned.com:563 failed, message=502 reader6.xlned.com: Access denied to your node - usenet@xlned.com
2009-01-20 21:01:37,655 ERROR [downloader] Connecting 2@reader1.xlned.com:563 failed, message=502 reader6.xlned.com: Access denied to your node - usenet@xlned.com
I wanted to see if it is a timeout problem, so I quit sabnzbd again, and instantly started Grabit again, maybe 20 seconds or less after I quit sabnzbd, Grabit was happily loading without problems. So something stange is happening there, I have checked server and password, all entered correctly. Another strange thing is why it is trying to connect to reader5 and reader6, since I have only configured reader1 with xlned, so why does it resolve to reader5 and 6 instead?

Try replacing reader1.xlned.com with 85.12.40.190 in sabnzbd's server configuration

I suspect that there's something seriously wrong on the news server side.
It looks like there connection counter is flawed. Or they think that you're usinjg your subscription from multiple IP addresses.

Have you asked the news provider or looked in their forum/support pages?

Maybe I don't understand and I'm missing something here, but why not go back to the basics:

Stop other news downloaders.
Set up Sabnzbd with 1 (one) NNTP connection to reader1.xlned.com, and no SSL / NNTPS / port 563.
Then try again.

BTW: which OS are you using?

FWIW: I can connect to reader1.xlned.com (and reader3) over NNTP, not over NTTPS

Code: Select all

sander@server:~$ telnet reader1.xlned.com nntp
Trying 85.12.40.190...
Connected to reader1.xlned.com.
Escape character is '^]'.
201 reader3.xlned.com NNRP Service Ready - usenet@xlned.com (no posting)(no reading).
