Ok, got a new modem and my speed doubled, up to 1.5MB. Seems to stay at a fairly  constant rate most of the time. Sometimes, it will drop to a much slower speed and then return to the higher rate, but this seems to be much less of the time. I'll keep an eye on it and see what happens. Thanks for you...

Newshosting.com is my host. Yes, my connection drops to zero and recovers reapeatedly.  It will dl fine for several minutes then drop to zero for 30-60 seconds or so, then recover again.
