ok so i am on windows 7 64bit, using firefox 3.6.13 and sabnzbd 0.5.6

I also added the nzbdstatus plug in for firefox and also use sabmobile on my iphone.  The only setting changes i made inside sabnzbd was folder locations and for it to watch a dropbox folder and a nzbmatrix rss feed.

Am I causing some issue by having sab installed on more than 1 computer in my network? That's definitely not the problem, why do you suspect that? Which version(s) of sabnzbd are you using?
