@shypike - I have it running on a Windows Home Server 2011. The refresh rate is set at 1 sec.
I think the best option is to just let it run with the browser closed.

SAB Download speed slows with browser open
Hi, Over past few week I have noticed the download speeds have dropped dramatically. I assumed it was my VPN but after further investigation I have found that if I have Firefox open with SABNZBD the download speed is around 1.8MB/s.
