Possibly... I formatted my drive and the problems seem to be gone, for now. I don't get why there would not be an existing file to overwrite. The validation process needs a file to validate. When a file seems corrupt or bad, the file gets repaired or downloaded again, and should then be named as the...

Yes it did (succesfully).
What happens when the repair tool can't overwrite a file - for whatever reason? Maybe it just names it filename.1
