Have you tested with other values and "the pipe" and whether or not this has side effects? I would be interested to know. It's always nice to see pro-active users. Where is the canonical source repository? I couldn't find a mention of it and the SF.net project doesn't appear to have enabl...

It appears from an strace that SABnzbd uses a select() with a 500 microsecond timeout causing it to wake up the CPU way more frequently than it needs. It would be better to have a large timeout and a pipe in the select set to wake it up if necessary.
